Since 1998, the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association (MMPPA) has campaigned to promote and protect the status of the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie.
The MMPPA hopes to maintain the quality and integrity of the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie by obtaining Protected Geographical Indication (PGI). This European legislation will prevent pies being indiscriminately labelled as ‘Melton Mowbray Pork Pies’ unless they are manufactured within a designated geographical area and comply with a prescribed specification.
Under the chairmanship of Matthew O'Callaghan, a Melton Borough and Leicester County Councillor, the Association consists of a number of Melton Mowbray pork pie producers and can be contacted at:
